After the Second World War, Sequim opened a building for hundreds of local veterans with a bar, large meeting room and restaurant. Post 4760 was named for Henry Clarence Echternkamp, born in Clallam County on 26 March 1918 to William F. and Grace (Cays) Echternkamp. He worked as a laborer in a saw mill before enlisting in the US Navy in October 1940 as a Seaman, First Class. He served on the USS Arizona until 10 December 1941 when he died from his wounds after the invasion of Pearl Harbor. Interred at Punchbowl A525, Henry was awarded the Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal w/Fleet Clasp, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/Star, and the WWII Victory Medal.
